It’s interesting that the first 9 chapters of the book of Proverbs deal substantially of warnings against adultery, prostitution and folly. God created us male and female for the purpose of reproduction and family. He made sex enjoyable and was to be shared only between husband and wife. This is part of the blessing God gave to mankind. Of course the sexual attraction is part of what God created in us. Since Adam and Eve’s sin, sexual attraction has often been misused. Everyone is free to choose how they will behave and what attitudes they wish to have. However, the Bible warns about God’s hatred for adultery as well as promiscuity because it is rebellion against God’s purpose and against God’s authority. Jesus summed it up as lust. The Bible is clear that sexual immorality has a severe consequence. Jesus died on the cross paying for our sins, so God can forgive our sexual sins, but due to the severity of God’s view on the misuse of sex, repentance must be sincere with the willingness to fight the temptations to continue in such sin.
2 Peter 3:9-12
9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives NIV
