Proverbs 10:1 A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother. NIV
Parents usually want to be proud of their children, to know they raised them well and that they have a good head on their shoulders. This proverbs speaks of the effects of how children (especially grown) can affect their parents. “A wise son brings joy to his father” does not exclude the mother but emphasized that fathers desire to take pride in their sons. When an offspring does well, it’s usually dad who does the bragging. “A foolish son brings grief to his mother” does not exclude the father but emphasizes that the mother usually feels her children’s foolishness, her disappointment in them more keenly.
Ephesians 6:2b -3
“Honor your father and mother”-which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” NIV Honoring our parents has more to do with our behavior and attitudes than lip service to our parents. If only more people took this to heart.
