According to God’s word in Proverbs 22:15, Folly is bound up in the heart of a child. The verse goes on stating that discipline will drive folly far from him. God also said in Proverbs 22:6: Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Parenting is a great responsibility, one which God has placed on every parent. It appears there are those who prefer to promote the folly in children, rather than guide them appropriately through the adjustments of growing up. Jesus said in Matthew 18:6: But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. I’ve often thought of these passages referring to warnings to not lead a child away from God through one’s teaching. While that is true, I’ve come to realize the warnings also pertain to preventing child abuse – through neglect, mental, emotional and/or physical/sexual abuse. Those who abuse a child, according to God’s word, deserve death – a millstone around the neck and thrown into the sea. Unless there is true repentance and a change of living, such individuals will find no forgiveness but only the wrath of God.
