Many people have faith. Faith is what they believe. For some, their faith is in their own imaginings. For others, faith is based on a religious set of teachings. For others, faith is based on God’s Word but does not adhere to it. One can say they have faith and speak of it in a way to try to legitimize their actions. The only faith that really counts is faith that lines up with the Faith Once and For All Delivered to the Saints (Jude 3). Biblical faith is discipleship – commitment to learning God’s Word, believing it and living it. None of us are perfect in our knowledge, belief and life. However, we are to “press on” in our ability to have this faith (Philippians 3:12 – 21). One saying they have faith in God while rejecting what God says or approving of what God rejects is not faith. It is rebellion. Real faith is taking God at His Word.
